About us

The Queer Kids
We are the queer kids!

For so many years, it is no doubt that our country values religion, tradition, and conservatism due to its historical background. It still has yet to open its doors to changes or it might have opened up a little bit. So, in our country, it is without a doubt that there will be limited information regarding the different spectrums of the LGBTQ+ community and also because of the religious beliefs we have. But this should not stop us from learning and opening our minds to this kind of topic although we’ve been brought up to not face these issues.

Throughout the years, limited information regarding the LGBTQ+ community has made us ignorant and insensitive. Bullying has become one of the cases the community has experienced not only in school but also anywhere in society which makes them more vulnerable in showing their real selves. Since one of the missions of our schools is “to protect and promote the right of every Filipino'', “to quality, culture-based and complete basic education where students learn in a child-friendly, gender-sensitive, safe and motivating environment”, meaning that every school should be gender-sensitive to any students, they should protect their rights regardless of their gender and regardless of their differences in beliefs. Schools should be a place where children will learn and grow, a safe space for children of all spectrums. And it should help them discover and explore themselves, not limit them just because of our traditionalism.

The undeniable fact that the community has experienced should not be feigned, disregarded, or ridiculed. One of these is being called the term “bakla” as an insult, youths that are part of the LGBTQ+ community who experience getting bullied in any means whether it is verbal or physical, and many more. So, we, The Queer Kids’ group, will do our utmost effort to raise awareness and spread pieces of information regarding the community to create a safe and supportive environment for any youth or closeted member of the LGBTQ+ community as we dream that there will be no more discrimination and abuse against them so they can live free from judgment.
