by: Chloue David
Some of us may be asking what it means to be bisexual. Some are confused about this. And in this article, we will be talking about the concepts of bisexuality.
What is bisexuality? Bisexuality is an attraction to more than one gender. To be Bisexual is to have a sexual attraction to both of the traditional genders. People who identify themselves as bisexual feel a sexual or romantic attraction to people of a different gender as well as their own.
While this provides a basic definition, bisexual people are a diverse group. Each individual perceives their sexual orientation differently. Some may be equally attracted to both men and women, while others have a stronger attraction toward one gender over another.
A bisexual person may be in a long-term same-sex or heterosexual relationship, or they may alternate between the two.
Bisexuality has been an ambiguous sexual identity. Due to the progressive transformation in the history of bisexuality, it has been difficult to distinctively define the term. This has resulted in many debates surrounding the distinctive historical formation of the term. It is necessary for us to comprehend the term bisexuality so that it can stand the test of time especially as the concept gains massive popularity in this day and age. Today, bisexuality is all around us and has become a dominant part of our daily lives and our popular culture. There are people who identify as being homosexual as they are only sexually and emotionally drawn towards persons of the same sex. Others are heterosexual and are only attracted to people of the opposite.
There are many theories and opinions on bisexuals, some we agree with, others do not fit our definition of being bisexual. The important thing is that bisexuality is real, it's not a "transition period" to being gay, a homosexual in denial, or a person who just can't make up their mind. Being bisexual is a huge part of other people’s identity, something that no one can take away from.
